Location: FEMA Region III: Washington, DC; Maryland; Delaware; Pennsylvania; Virginia; and West Virginia

Project Owner: Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)

Description: G&O developed an online Web site that enables the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and federal and community partners to collectively add, share, edit, and organize content related to the FEMA Region III levee and flood control structure certification process.

Significant Facts:

  • The system organizes and shares maps, documents, photographs, forms and other useful content that enables FEMA to coordinate and collaborate with communities effectively.
  • G&O designed an adaptable Semantic Web information design for modeling levee projects and affected hydraulic systems and segments. Semantic Web structure expresses content in human-readable form and makes it easier to share information across application, enterprise, and community boundaries.
  • The system is powered by Mediawiki, the same proven open source technology that powers the Wikipedia online encyclopedia.
