Location: Nationwide
Project Owner: Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
Description: The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) contracted with G&O to develop a process for capturing repetitive loss data on properties nationwide. Local inspectors needed to access existing data stored in FEMA's BureaNet system while collecting loss data at the property site. Each FEMA region had an existing tool in place – from pencil and paper to Excel spreadsheets. To coordinate this information, G&O created a portable program and database using Microsoft Access that can run on a laptop computer. This tool enables inspectors to download current property data from FEMA's BureaNet system prior to performing inspections via an Internet connection. While in the field, inspectors can access the BureaNet data and record additional loss data on their laptops. This data then can be uploaded to a Master repetitive loss database. This tool enables FEMA to have consistent information for loss data in each of its regions.
Significant Facts:
- Used nationwide to gather information about floodprone structures in order to determine potentially appropriate long-term mitigation measures.
- Provides local officials with important information related to the structures in their communities.
- Provides a standardized, systematic approach to collecting and interpreting property data and mitigation project development.
- Assists FEMA officials in maintaining and updating important information about floodprone structures.
