Description: G&O is working with the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) to reduce phosphorous loads flowing into Lake Okeechobee from the Lamb Island Tributary as part of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Program.

Significant Facts:

  • Once completed, Lamb Island Tributary project will be used by SFWMD as a Demonstration Project that local farmers can adopt as a cost-effective means for minimizing nutrient (phosphorous) discharge to meet SFWMD's regulatory requirements.
  • The Lamb Island project is part of the Lake Okeechobee Watershed Phosphorous Control Program (an element of the Comprehensive Everglade Restoration Program, an $8 billion project) to mitigate the up to 600 metric tons of nutrients that flow into Lake Okeechobee each year.
