Description: Provide complete design services for the reconstruction of the I-20/I-520 system-to-system interchange. Includes Davis Road widening, I-20 widening, and Crane's Creek.

Significant Facts:
  • The challenge was designing a new interchange in an already developed urban area. Construction staging and maintenance of traffic were very complex.
  • All available land area was used to create a series of detention ponds, resulting in a significant reduction in peak flows of Crane's Creek.

Project Services: The project includes updates to the database, geotechnical investigations, concept validation, preliminary design, right of way plans, and final design services.

Other separate elements included flooding analysis; replacement of two loops of the existing clover leaf by flyover ramps on the I-20/I-520 system-to-system exchange; and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Categorical Exclusion and resource reports, Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) locating and participating in stakeholder process for the Davis Road widening project.
