Location: Ft. Meade, Anne Arundel County, MarylandDescription: This project replaced the existing MD 32 signalized intersections with a diamond interchange. To improve traffic flow and safety along this suburban arterial roadway, double urban roundabouts were located at each end of the existing bridge; two other busy roads were relocated to connect to the interchange. This project focused on a segment of MD 32 located within Fort Meade.
An award-winning project:- 2004 Maryland State Highway Administration's Maryland Quality Initiative Award (MdQI) Award of Excellence for a consultant designed large project.
- 2004 Design Build Institute of America-National Capitol Chapter Design Build Excellence Award, Civil category.
- A phased design process allowed early stages of the project to be constructed while later phase were being designed, yielding a project completed on budget and on time.
- Due to successful coordination with the Team, (Maryland Department of the Environment, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Meade Public Works, and Tipton Airport) there was in minimal impact to sensitive wetlands areas and wildlife habitats.
- Project notice to proceed occurred just prior to the September 11 terrorist incident, resulting in sweeping security/access restrictions.
- The Detail-Build team designed and constructed extensive relocations and protective systems for existing water, sanitary, power, and communications utilities.
