Local Scholarship Winners Complete Summer Internships at Greenhorne & O'Mara

LAUREL, MD – September 19, 2008 – Maryland-based engineering consulting firm Greenhorne & O'Mara (G&O) announced that University of Maryland College Park students Emily Anderson, Adam Leith, Jared McGrath, and David Miller has successfully completed summer internship and have been awarded an A. James O’Mara scholarship in the amount of $3,000 each to support their civil engineering program studies for the 2008-2009 school year.

The students all agreed that their experiences at G&O were invaluable.  All received hands on experience in their specific service area, and learned that effective communication is a key to success.

"We were thrilled to have such a great group of interns in our scholarship program this summer. Our commitment to search for only the best and brightest in the engineering field allows us to continue our 60 year legacy of engineering and technical excellence. Our interns stated they enjoyed our highly professional, yet collegial environment, and saw G&O as a place where their careers could flourish. Our veteran staff was equally excited to pass on their years of knowledge to the engineers of the future who were enthusiastic about learning." It's truly been a "Win–Win" experience for G&O," said Pete Quinn, Senior Vice President, Corporate Development.

This was the first year of G&O's new internship/scholarship program in conjunction with the University of Maryland College Park. It benefits students in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The internship/scholarship program was established in honor of G&O co-founder A. James O'Mara, P.E., who passed away in November 2007.

Greenhorne & O'Mara (G&O) is a full-service engineering consulting firm that provides solutions in the areas of general civil, transportation, environmental, water resources, and hazard mitigation and security services to clients in the public and private sectors.
